Beverly Joan Newquist, 88, of Fullerton, passed away Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, at Arbor Care Center in Fullerton.

To honor Bev’s wishes, cremation was chosen. A memorial service will take place in the spring.

Beverly was born Jan. 16, 1936 to Erroll and Mary (Horn) Berney near Wolbach. She graduated from Wolbach High School in 1953. After high school, she worked at Wolbach Messenger and a couple cafes in Wolbach. She also sold Avon for many years, with her future husband, Carl, being one of her customers. She was united in marriage to Carl ‘Cork’ Newquist Jr. on April 30, 1955 at the Belgrade United Methodist Church. They made their home on a farm west of Belgrade and raised five children. After her children were raised, she started working as a caregiver and did that for over 25 years. In 2013, she moved to Fullerton after Cork passed in 2009.

Bev loved playing cards, especially pitch, and cooking. Most of all, she loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for many years.

She is survived by her children, Penny Newquist of Round Hill, Va., Roxanne (Raymond) Mostek of Chapman, Peggy (Duane Reese) Newquist of Lincoln, Carl ‘Rusty’ (Barb) Newquist Ш of Cedar Rapids and Ernie (Barbara Hahn) Newquist of Lincoln; grandchildren, Jossy (Ryan) Rogers, Justine (Stephanie) Baerquist, Alex (fiancée, Shelby Aufenkamp) Reese-Newquist, Maddy Jan Newquist Petracek, Sydney (Skyler) Weber, Jacque Newquist and Christian Reese-Newquist; two great-grandchildren, Graham and Maeve Rogers; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Newquist; her parents; and siblings, John Berney, Carol Nelson, Dorothy Bayless, Nadene Weissman, Marilyn Todd, Dale Berney, Dwayne Berney and Ronnie Berney.

Memorials are suggested to MS Society and Wolbach Community Center.
