Fungus Among Us

Fungi are a natural part of landscapes. They go unnoticed until we see signs of them or symptoms on plants. Signs can be mold, mushrooms, decay, or rusty colored dust on lawn mowers. Symptoms may include leaf spots or discolored areas on plant stems.

Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met on October 17, 2024, for a short meeting and day of annual project work. Members gathered at Palmer’s St. John Lutheran Church at 9:30 for rolls, coffee and brief conversation, before the business meeting.

Leaving leaves and plants over winter

You’ve likely have heard the promotion “Leave the Leaves” to protect beneficial insects like pollinators during winter. While it is a good idea to leave fallen tree leaves in garden beds and shrub borders, it is not be the best idea for lawns or other turfgrass areas.
