COLUMBUS — The Columbus man accused of killing a Fullerton woman has accepted a plea deal.
Jack Reeg, 26, of Columbus, pled no contest to one count of second-degree murder and one count of use of a firearm to commit a felony. Two of the charges he originally faced — terroristic threat and a second charge of using a firearm to commit a felony — have been dropped by the prosecution.
Reeg was arrested in connection to the Sept. 16, 2025, shooting death of his girlfriend, Kennedi DeMuth, 25, of Fullerton. The court accepted his change of plea on May 20 and found him guilty. Sentencing is scheduled for July 29 at 9 a.m. and he could spend the rest of his life in prison.
According to court documents, Reeg told police that he and DeMuth had been fighting for several months.
Reeg told police that he and DeMuth went out on Sept. 16 for drinks and food. When they returned to his home in the 2200 block of 7th Street, they began fighting again.
Reeg claimed he caught DeMuth in a lie and it made him angry. He went to his closet and pulled out a .22 rifle. According to court documents, Reeg pointed the rifle and DeMuth and threatened her with it.
Reeg told police that DeMuth said she was going to get a protection order against him. He said that hearing this made him even more angry.
Reeg told police that he had unloaded the gun prior to the fight and did not think there was a round in the chamber. He said that he pulled the trigger to try to scare her.
