Originally delayed until Thursday, city announced additional repairs needed
FULLERTON — Not so fast. It will be a few more days before you can dive on in.
The city of Fullerton announced Wednesday morning that the Fullerton Community Swimming Pool will be closed longer than originally thought. The city had pushed back the opening to Thursday; now it looks like it will be Tuesday before the pool can open.
“During the final stages of preparation, a crack was discovered in one of the main water return pipes that requires immediate attention and repair,” Fullerton City Administrator Allen Chlopek said. “This is the same area we had to previously repair in 2021. We lost over a foot of water depth between leaving yesterday evening and this morning when we came to check in on it. We apologize for any inconvenience this delay will cause and appreciate your understanding.”
The original delay was for unforeseen mechanical issues and the necessary completion of the chlorination process.
“We are working with our pool contractors to try and get this repair done as quickly as possible, but we will have to drain the pool to create a temporary fix for the season,” Chlopek said. “To fully fix this issue would require the pool to be closed for at least another month while the concrete necessary for the repairs would need to finish curing, we will have to make these repairs once we are closed for the summer.”
The pool was originally set to open on Tuesday.
The pool is open Monday through Saturday from 1-7 p.m. and Sunday from 1-6 p.m. Pool passes are available for purchase at the pool or at the city office. Weekly and season passes include: family season pass (anyone in your household), $150; individual weekly pass, $100; individual day pass, $5. Pool parties can be scheduled for $100 for one hour and $175 for two hours.
“We understand the frustration this may cause, particularly with the arrival of summer and warmer weather,” he said. “We assure you that we are doing everything possible to expedite the repair process and restore the pool to a functional and safe condition for your enjoyment.
“Thank you for your understanding, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused. We value your support and look forward to welcoming you to the Fullerton public pool as soon as possible.”
