Just outside the back door of the farmhouse where I grew up was a large “cat pan”. It was there my mom would conveniently dispose of table scraps, as well as any leftovers past their prime. She knew that sooner or later our cats or dog would show up to eat.

10 Years Ago The Boone-Nance Genealogical Society is again resuming work toward publishing a book which lists the Civil War veterans which at one time lived in Boone County. June Bentley has listed and alphabetized 297 names of Civil War veterans who at one time lived in Boone County.

Lower Loup NRD Taking Tree and Shrub Orders for 2023 Planting

The Lower Loup Natural Resources District is now accepting orders for conservation tree and shrub seedlings for planting in spring, 2023. The trees are sold to landowners in the District seeking to implement windbreaks, wildlife habitat, buffer strips, or other conservation practices.

Loup Power Delivers Lease Payments

COLUMBUS, Neb. — Loup Power District officials recently presented lease payment checks totaling more than $1.6 million to area communities. Each of these communities owns their electric distribution systems. These payments compensate them for the use of those systems for the third quarter of 2022.

CPPD customers give $2,950 to help their communities

Cornhusker Power Goodwill Fund trustees awarded $2,950.00 to 11 organizations at the November 7 meeting. Cornhusker Public Power District CEO/GM Clay Gibbs said, “These organizations are doing great things in the community, and we are very proud to be a part of it.

Local veterans honored with ‘Quilts of Valor’

At the Veterans Day Program held on Friday, Nov. 11, at the Fullerton School gym, the event began with the school choir singing the “Star Spangled Banner,” followed by the band performing “America on Parade.” Carter Meysenburg and Torrie Harris played Taps.

One Act team preparing for next production; earn high ratings at season’s festivals

This year’s One Act team has been living in spooky season, preparing for their production of “Are We Scared Yet?” by Bobby Keniston. The story centers around summer campers who get lost in the woods. To pass the time, they decide to scare each other with spooky tales.
