Girls State Golf was held on Monday and Tuesday, October 10 and 11 at the Elks Country Club in Columbus. Day One results: 53-49 Total 102. Emily was in 58th place after Day 1 Day Two results: 50-42 Total 92. After her 2nd day, she finished tied for 34th place overall. It took Emily a while to “just play golf.” We talk about this a lot as a team because each level of competition has more at stake. Playing for fun on a Saturday is much easier than playing at districts or state. 'Just play golf' means to put yourself in a mindset where you don’t worry about the results, but on the next shot and to trust your swing and routine. I try to remind them to, “play like it is a Saturday and we are playing for fun.” It is easy to say but very difficult for even the best golfers to do.
On Day One of State Golf, Emily struggled off the tee box and found herself off the fairway and in the trees which forced her to have to punch out costing her a stroke each time.
Some times you have to have some luck and on Day Two when Emily would miss the fairway, she always seemed to still have a normal shot at the green and did not have to waste a stroke getting back into play.
Emily had a great 2nd day at state and finishing with a 42 on her last 9 holes of her high school career will be something she will remember for a long time.
She is a really good golfer and was a good leader on our team, but more importantly, a she is a great person. She will be missed next season.
