Fullerton woman dies in Columbus shooting

COLUMBUS — Columbus Police have arrested a man in connection to the fatal shooting of a Fullerton woman.

Officers responded to a call at 8:37 p.m. on Tuesday in the 2200 block of 7th Street in Columbus after receiving a report of a female suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

“This is a tragic incident, and our department is committed to conducting a thorough investigation,” Interim Police Chief Bret Strecker said in a news release. “The Columbus Police Department and City of Columbus extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim during this difficult time.”

Police identified the victim as Kennedi DeMuth, 25, of Fullerton. She was transported for medical treatment but later died from her injuries.

DeMuth is a 2018 graduate of Fullerton High School. She worked at the Corn Krib in Belgrade. Corn Krib announced on Thursday that they will have a Burger Bash on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with all proceeds going to the DeMuth family.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, 2025, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Fullerton with Reverend Vern Olson officiating. Burial will follow at Fullerton Cemetery in Fullerton. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Palmer-Santin Funeral Home is serving the family.

Police arrested Jack Reeg, 25, of Columbus, in connection to the shooting. He faces charges of second-degree murder, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony and terroristic threats.

According to Strecker, Reeg confessed to causing DeMuth’s injuries. He was booked into the Platte County Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing. No further details are available at this time.
