Church to celebrate 90th anniversary

FULLERTON — In 1934 a group of 50 worshipers conducted their first service and became Mt. Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church. In 1935 they rented a building of another denomination, then purchased property and created a basement chapel in 1950. The church building was constructed in 1962 above the basement chapel, offering updated facilities for worship and fellowship gatherings.

This was the beginning of what Mt. Calvary’s members have done to share the gospel to the area of Fullerton. Numerous adjustments have been implemented to accommodate increasing membership and expand outreach possibilities. This included building a parsonage, a garage, an addition for Sunday School rooms, a ground floor kitchen, bell tower, chair lift, and fellowship rooms. During the past year, the front section underwent renovation, which included expansion to increase space, addressing roof issues and installing energy efficient doors and windows.

The faith that the founding fathers of Mt. Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church had 90 years ago is still going strong. A dedication and special guitar service will take place at 9 a.m. on Jan. 25 as part of the celebration.

Donuts and coffee will be served after the service, providing an opportunity for everyone to enjoy fellowship together. The musical prelude, featuring Leta Liesch and Elena Reimer, will begin at 1 p.m. At 2 p.m., there will be a devotion, a brief skit, activities involving a time capsule, music, games with refreshments to follow.

The church welcomes the entire community to join in commemorating 90 years of gospel outreach, reflecting on history, while anticipate what is ahead.
