LETTER TO THE EDITOR

October 24, 2022 Dear Editor: We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union…” In the first part of the preamble to the Constitution I notice words that are vitally important. These words are “we the people” and “in order to form a more perfect union.” It is up to us, we the people, to bring about a more perfect union and to work together to make our “united” states even better. However, at this time I am concerned about the loud voices in our nation that are causing division and leading us on the wrong path. And, 67% of Americans agree.

The consensus is that the policies of our elected officials, especially on the federal level, are leading us off course. But, we the people, can affect a change of course where needed. We have the privilege, the duty and the responsibility to vote. Statistics show, however, that only 26% of adults vote in a mid-term election. Why would that be? It is said that people don’t vote because they don’t know who to vote for. Just recently I heard it said, “The question is not who to vote for but what to vote for.” I agree.

For the past few months I have been investigating candidates, listening to debates when possible, examining their answers to important questions, noticing what they have done in the past, and basically, checking on the policies they support. It has been shown that elected officials follow their party platform 80% of the time.

In today’s paper you will find a two-party platform comparison, and as you read it you will find many differences in the main two parties. But, how will you and I know which platform is best for our country when there are differing opinions? This will be decided by our worldview. A personal worldview is a combination of all you believe to be true, and what you believe then becomes the driving force behind every emotion, decision and action. Therefore, it affects your response to every area of life.

We are bombarded with media opinions, what is said to be politically correct, words with new definitions and so-called science. Because I am a follower of Jesus Christ, I want my worldview to be directed by the Scriptures. And, I encourage you to base your worldview on the Bible—God’s word. And, please don’t get used to living with lies. We all know that men do not have babies, that marriage is between a man and a woman, that mother is the correct term rather birthing person, that there are two sexes—male and female, that mutilating bodies (even of children) is not the answer for gender confusion, that abortion is not re-productive health and that we are a Constitutional Republic.

We have been a blessed nation. On the Statue of Liberty you will read, “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.” We did not become this “beacon of hope” by socialism (a path some want us to take) but by following our Constitution and by the blessings of almighty God.

And, we are Americans—not whiteAmericans, black Americans or Hispanic Americans, etc., but just plain Americans. We love our country and by working together we can strengthen our “more perfect union.”

Please note that if you have not yet registered to vote, you can do that in person until October 28. And, I urge you to check out the two-party platform comparison, dig into God’s word for principles to guide you, research the policies of the candidates and then vote on policy. And, please remember that 80% of the time, officials vote party line. To help you find out about candidates and their policies you can go to ivoterguide.com and NebraskaVoterGuide.com. I have found these two sites very helpful. And, please do your homework before you vote. Fran Cupples Fullerton, NE
