I totally agree with Larry Syslo in his recent letter to the editor.
I was born and raised a Belgrade farm girl and have recently returned to Fullerton.
Being away, I always looked forward to the Nance County Journal for news from home.
But the recent changes have disappointed me.
The owners and most of the reporters, and columnists don’t even reside in the County. So a certain local quality and feel is missing. Sports reporting is good, but there seems to be an overload of religious columns that seem more suited for a church bulletin, and the editorials and opinions are mostly written by people who do not live here, so do not resonate with the locals much. I mean how much do we need to know about the editor taking his kids to McDonalds, or their family antics in a home far from here? Many Belgrade folks miss the old Belgrade page where we could find news about our citizens, Belgrade activities, and yes, our “Rewind History” , which was wonderful!
Whether we live away or right here, we look forward each week for the paper to catch us up on local news about our beautiful Fullerton and Belgrade communities and interesting folks. I think we were all delighted to see Nancy Sites Sizemore and her recipe column recently included. That is a big step in the right direction! It seens right now that Belgrade is largely ignored.
There is so much more to Nance County than sports, political opinions, and the Editor’s family stories. OUR people have lives, histories, and accomplishment that are often totally missed.
Our little newspaper needs a real, local heartbeat.
Your attitude toward Mr. Syslo was rude , to say the least. Just because a home town guy makes his home in another state does not mean he isn’t a faithful reader of the Nance County Journal, or doesn’t care about it’s quality.
There are countless numbers of we folks that were raised in this area and live in other states or Nebraska areas, who have loved the paper over the past years. It is a great way to stay in touch with friends, family, and community. Telling us to skip over stuff we don’t like in the newly changed paper, would leave most of us a lot less to read and even less reason to pick it up locally or subscribe to it.
