Grace Notes

Stinky Sneakers

Recently while driving, I found myself swerving to avoid…a shoe!  There it was, smack in the middle of the roadway—one solitary sneaker. This not being the first time I’ve spotted a shoe lying in the street, I found myself wondering, again, what had happened?

Weighed down

I stepped out into the motel parking lot, slowed down not only by luggage, but also fatigue. The time was 5:30 a.m.As I unlocked our vehicle and began putting luggage in it, I heard the steps of someone running on the frontage road nearby.

Divine Delays

While driving to work one day a few years ago, I observed something that made me chuckle. A truck had pulled over onto the side of the road. Warning lights were flashing. Florescent orange cones stood sentry around the vehicle. The hood was propped up.

Ink Pens and God’s Grace

One day, while transferring a load of freshly washed dark clothes from the washer to the dryer, the cap of a pen fell out. Knowing that at our house caps don’t always get put back on pens like they should, I thought this was simply a misplaced cap.

Plastic Posies

After five decades of living on the farm, my folks moved to town.  They took the basics that they needed, and left me with the daunting task of figuring out what to do with the rest.

Defining ‘Good’

“You better watch out…I’m telling you why—Santa Claus is coming to town. He knows if you’ve been bad or good, so be good for goodness sake!”After hearing that song on the radio numerous times, one concerned kid penned this note. “Dear Santa, Please define ‘good’.”Good. Exactly what DOES that mean?
