DOMINANT PERFORMERS

There are a lot of talented athletes in Nance County.Each week throughout the school year we chose two athletes (and sometimes more) and recognized them for their achievements that previous week. Sometimes the choices were obvious — breaking a school record or winning a state title.

It’s not always the athlete who puts up the most impressive stat line who makes the biggest impact on a team.Sometimes the impact an athlete makes does not show up in the box score.

Wearing the school colors one final time

GRAND ISLAND — This past weekend saw the Goldenrod Conference and the Crossroads Conference hook up for their annual head-to-head battles on the volleyball court and the hardwood.

Warriors, Titans finish season at State

OMAHA — What a way to finish the season.Fullerton and Twin River finished the track season over the weekend at Class C and D State at Burke Stadium in Omaha. Two athletes put in their best result of the season, with one athlete standing tall on the podium.

NCJ Athletes of the Week for May 20, 2026

Each week during the school year, the Nance County Journal will select a male and female Athlete of the Week. This week we break from our norm and have selected eight area athletes. It's pretty hard to ignore someone when they punch their ticket to State.

Rood makes it to State in triple jump

ALBION — Twin River may have only punched one ticket to State, but the Titans did see a lot of personal bests on Thursday at the C-6 District at Boone Central.Caleb Rood finished second in the triple jump with a personal best jump of 40-10.50 to qualify for the Class C State Track Championships.

Titans wrap golf regular season

GENEVA — Twin River finished the regular season with the Crossroads Conference meet at Hidden Hills Country Club.Corbin Rodriguez shot a 107 and Chance Swantek carded a 112.The Titans competed on Tuesday in the C-2 District at Quail Run (results after deadline).

Titans, Warriors entering final stretch

STROMSBURG — Fullerton and Twin River athletes made their final stop of the regular season on their road to the NSAA State Track Championships.Both teams were in action on Thursday at the Cross County Invite in Stromsburg.Fullerton’s boys finished fifth overall with 51 points.

Titans season ends at district

LINCOLN — On Thursday the Twin River baseball season came to an end with a 12-0 five inning thud at Lincoln Christian in the opening round of the Class C-5 district.The Titans only managed 1 hit against Class C No. 3 Lincoln Christian starter Drew Mittan who threw 5 innings and struck out 6 batters.
