5 chili teams compete for 3 trophies

TeamMates offering FREE admission to fund-raiser

FULLERTON — Sample different chilis and support Fullerton students.

Fullerton TeamMates are just days away from their inaugural Chili Cook-Off fund-raiser and it is shaping up to be one of the group’s biggest fundraisers to date. The big event is Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the Eagles Club. The event is taking place during Fullerton’s Old Fashioned Christmas festivities.

“We are excited to announce that thanks to the generous support of all of our sponsors, admission to our fund-raiser is 100 percent free,” Fullerton TeamMates Coordinator Melissa Aaberg said. “We want to invite the entire community to come out on Friday and support our students.”

The cook-off will feature five chili teams vying for three top prizes. Trophies will be presented to the Judges’ Choice, People’s Choice and Best Theme.

This y e a r ’s teams a r e Elementary Teachers, High School Teachers, the Fullerton Board of Education, TeamMates Board and a team consisting of Fullerton choir and band students.

The celebrity judges for the event include Interim Superintendent Lynn Johnson and teachers Ike Carr and Brandon Siegel.

Tickets for the event will be handed out at the door. The ticket can be used to vote for your favorite chili, with the winner earning the People’s Choice Award.

During the Chili Cook-Off, Fullerton TeamMates will also be running a raffle auction. Raffle tickets can be purchased during the event for three tickets for $5. Auction items include Husker basketball tickets, a meat package from River’s Edge Meat Locker, holiday items and a basket donated by MyBridge Radio.

“Even if you are not a fan of chili, stop by for the auction,” Aaberg said. “We have some great items that are going to be given away at the end of the night. Winners do not have to be present to win.”

In addition to five variations of chili, hot dogs will also be available at the event.
