Fullerton moves to even/odd water plan

FULLERTON — The city of Fullerton will relax water restrictions starting this weekend.

The city announced this week that residents can resume watering their lawns every other day between dusk and dawn. Odd numbered houses can water their yard on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Even numbered houses can water their yard on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Sunday the city will allow both to water their yards but would like to encourage people to be conscious of their water usage on that day.

Normal household water use will not be restricted, but again the city would like to encourage people to use their water wisely.

“While we are loosening the restrictions, we are not necessarily out of the woods yet,” City Administrator Allen Chlopek said. “We will continue to closely monitor our well’s water levels and take action if deemed necessary. We do want to say we appreciate the effort in cutting water usage.”

Before the restrictions it was not out of the ordinary for us to pump more than 650,000 gallons per day, but due to the community-wide effort that number has consistently been down in the 330,000 gallons per day range, Chlopek said.

“We hope to have the 94 well rehabbed and ready for use in September and will continue to work on siting a new well,” he said.
