Girl drowns at Power House Park

FULLERTON —A 15-year-old girl has died after getting caught in the current of the Cedar River near Power House Park on Thursday afternoon.

Nance County Sheriff Ben Bakewell said that the Nance County Sheriff’s Office, Fullerton Volunteer Fire Department and Fullerton Volunteer Rescue Squad responded to a reported drowning on the Cedar River. According to witnesses, two teenagers were swimming near the low head dam when the victim was swept under the water.

First Responders were able to locate Adrian E. Harlow of Central City and Fullerton, who was caught in the turbulent current on the downstream side of the dam. CPR was administered and she was transported to the Merrick County Medical Center by ambulance. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. 

Harlow was a student at High Plains.

Sheriff Bakewell and the entire Sheriff’s Department want to express their deepest condolences to the family of the victim. Sheriff Bakewell commends the outstanding teamwork and efforts of all the first responders involved.
