Neighbors and friends braved the heat last Thursday evening to gather on the lawn of Liz Zarek. For the 15th year she has hosted her Neighborhood Watch Bar-B-Q. In 2008 Fullerton’s Police Department invited members of the community to get to know their neighbors as part of a neighborhood watch initiative. Several people at the time hosted Bar-B-Q’s and get-togethers, but none have been able to sustain the annual tradition like Liz has. She has hosted her Neighborhood Watch Bar-B-Q every year since the initial meeting except for 2015 when her husband suffered a stroke and unexpectedly passed away. Attendance varies every year, but usually there are between 40 and 60 guests. Pulled pork, hot dogs, buns and drinks were provided by the host while a potluck provided the dessert and sides. This year there were 46 people in attendance. NCJ photo by April Carr
