Twin River releases settlement details

GENOA — Twin River Schools has released details of the settlement reached with a former employee.

The Twin River Board of Education approved the resignation of former school counselor Dan Koziol, along with the settlement at their July 15 board meeting.

Koziol’s resignation is effective the end of the 2023-2024 contract year. In addition to paying out the remaining two months of the contract, the settlement includes an additional gross sum of $5,546.58 in August in exchange for waiving any rights he could have under Nebraska Revised Statute 79-824 through 79-842 and agreeing to not bring any claims against the district. All payments are minus normal tax deductions.

The settlement has a section that says that the agreement is not to be construed as an admission of liability by either side.

Koziol signed the settlement on June 27 and Board President Jennifer Swantek signed the settlement on July 15.

Twin River Interim Superintendent Chris Lecher declined to comment on what led to Koziol’s resignation.
