Nebraska Republican Party responds to new ICE facility in McCook

LINCOLN, NE —  Nebraska Republican Party released the following statement today in response to the announcement of a new U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility opening in McCook, Nebraska.

For too long, Nebraskans have felt the consequences of unchecked illegal immigration, suppressed wages, strained local resources, and diminished opportunity for the very workers who form the backbone of our state. The decision to open this facility demonstrates the seriousness of the crisis and the need for leadership that prioritizes Nebraska families.

“Illegal immigration has gone unchecked for far too long, and Nebraskans have paid the price. There are no winners when people cross our border illegally. Families are uprooted, migrants are too often exploited, and communities are strained. But it is Nebraska’s working men and women who have borne the greatest cost, decades of suppressed wages and diminished opportunities while illegal labor undercut their livelihoods,” said Chairman Mary Jane Truemper.

While enforcement is necessary to restore order, Chairman Truemper emphasized that Nebraska values and supports legal immigration. Properly vetted immigrants- through temporary worker programs, visa opportunities, and established legal pathways- make vital contributions to Nebraska’s communities, economy, and culture.

“We welcome those who come here legally, who contribute to our economy and enrich our neighborhoods. Compassion must be matched with order, and Nebraska Republicans stand for both. We believe in secure borders, respect for the rule of law, and ensuring that the dignity of work is protected for every Nebraskan.”

The Nebraska Republican Party reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for secure borders, fairness in the labor market, and immigration policies that value the contributions of legal immigrants while safeguarding opportunities for Nebraska’s working families.
