Thirty-Fifth annual Columbus Area “Life Chain” to be held Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025

Sunday, Oct. 5 is designated as Life Chain Sunday across the nation. Columbus-area churches will come together with other Nebraska communities and over 1,000 communities in the United States and Canada to pray together for the end of abortion and for the victims of abortion.

Hundreds of committed pro-life people of all faiths will stand along the sidewalks of 33rd Avenue and 23rd Street in Columbus from 1-2 p.m. praying and holding uniform signs. This is the 35th annual Life Chain that the Columbus area has participated in with the state and nation.  Churches from the Columbus Area have been invited to join Life Chain. This event originated in California in 1987 and has taken place nationally since.

“The purpose of Life Chain is to show the stand of solidarity by the area churches to communicate to the community our conviction that abortion is gravely wrong,” Barb McPhillips, chairman of the event, said. “Participants express that they are opposed to the killing of unborn children and the exploitation of their mothers by the abortion industry.  We come together with churches of all faiths to pray for the end of abortion and for all the victims of abortion, whether it be the unborn child, his mother or any family member.  Our prayers are also for those who provide or promote abortion that they may come to the realization of how wrong abortion is and that they convert to being pro-life and start to protect life instead of destroying human life.”

McPhillips stresses that this is a legal, peaceful prayerful event.

Anyone wishing to participate may pick up a sign after noon on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025, at the information center located on 33rd Avenue and 23rd Street in Columbus or call 402-276-0965 in advance. Participants are advised to not stand along the area of construction on 23rd Street.
