Former activities director and assistant administrator Shelli Horacek has been appointed as the new administrator at Valley View Assisted Living. She will be replacing Judy Helgoth who will be retiring later this year.
Jody Ziemba was appointed postmaster for the Fullerton Post Office effective October 6, 2012.
The Fullerton FFA team of Jolene Shotkoski, Seth Wetovick, Tori Ostrander, and Brian Wamberg won first place at the Area IV District Land Judging competition on October 4 at Johnstown. Wetovick was the top individual finisher. The Fullerton Flower Belles met on October 19 at the home of Noni Sprague. A decision was made to make a tour of Bluebird Nursery in the spring. A 30-year plus tradition continued October 22 when the Presbyterian Women hosted the Methodist Evening Circle for food, fellowship, and a program.

Freshman Vincent Koziol will compete at the state cross country finals at Kearney on October 25. Vince runs for the Central City Bisons Chuck Bowman assisted the Webelos in planting an 8 ft. Oak Leaf Mountain Ash on the south side of the softball field last week. Webelos assisting were Jordan Sweet, Cody Cunningham, Grant Riewer, Landon Knopik, Bryan Shotkoski, and Ethan Shotkoski. Leader Steve Shotkoski, Tony Shotkoski, and Terri Bowman also helped. ENGSTROM: To Richard and Johanna Engstrom of Genoa, a son, Ethan Edwin, born on October 8, 2002, at Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Fullerton Warriors came out on top of Cross County 12 to 8. The game started out great when Jon Santin ran a long run on the second play of the game. In the 2nd half Clay Fritz, Shane Christensen, Zach Wegner, Riley Klassen, and Tyler Christensen put together some nice drives.

BROWER: To Sam and Deborah Brower of Omaha, a son, Bryan Robert, born October 14 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha. The Recipe Box featured “Double Decker Choco Brownies” by Terri Bowman of Fullerton. Linda Dubas and Jim Crawford of Phillips were married September 26 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Fullerton.
The Junior High Warriors finished their season with a loss to Stromsburg 14-6 on Monday. David Small put Fullerton on top in the first quarter with a 7-yard run early in the game, but the Warriors couldn’t contain the Vikings to take the win.

Dan Shotkoski of Columbus was first place winner in the Journal Sports Contest. Placing as runner-up was Kenneth Stevens of St. Edward. CHRISTENSEN: To Mr. and Mrs. Craig Christensen of Fullerton, a son, Scott Thomas, on October 25 in Memorial Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Small of Fullerton announce the engagement of their daughter, Mary Cecelia, to Mark Jeffrey Wyman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Wyman of Silver Creek. A November 27 wedding is planned in St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Fullerton. To honor the birthdays of Tommy Knopik and Sean O’Hara, the latter’s parents entertained at a party in their home October 24 afternoon.

John Pelican of Palmer left October 18 for Army basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
SWERTZIC: To Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Swertzic, a son, on October 27 in Litzenberg Hospital in Central City. ANDERSON:To Mr. and Mr. Arthur Anderson III of Genoa, a son, on October 24 in the Genoa Hospital. Meet A Fullerton Warrior: Jim Evers. A 170-pound junior who plays end. He has seen a lot of action of specialty teams. He earned a letterman award last season.
Winter weather has been in the air during most of the past week. The first snow of the season fell in Fullerton October 28.
The annual Nance County Achievement Day for home extension club members will be held November 6 in the 4-H building. Recipients of the 25year membership award will be Mrs. Howard Keith, Mrs. Dora Sonderup, Mrs. Clarence Frenzen, Mrs. A. M. DeLancey, Mrs. Howard Drury, Mrs. Ronald Schlitt, Mrs. Homer Horn, and Mrs. Roy Babb.
For the first time this season there were three perfect entries in the Journal’s weekly Football Contest. They were Gene Cunningham of David City, Ricky Kolm of Cedar Rapids, and Jack W. Russell of Fullerton.

A chicken thief made off with a large number of hens raised this year by Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Hoisington. The thief was a 22-pound badger. With the use of a garden hoe, the only thing she had at hand, Mrs. Hoisington finally killed the huge badger.
Postage on first class letters will increase from the present 4 cents to 5 cents, and postal cards will go up from 3 cents to 4 cents.
Editorial by W. H. Plourd: a four-year-old’s account of the family vacation trip: “We got up early every morning and rode in the car all day.” SHOTKOSKI: To Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Shotkoski, a daughter, Lori Ann, on October 18 at Memorial Hospital. A Teen Hop will be held at Fullerton on Saturday evening in the 4-H Building. Dancing for the grade school boys and girls will be from 7 to 9 o’clock, and for the high school students from 9 to 11:30 o’clock.

With corn picking under way in Nance County, an average of 35 bushels to an acre is estimated by local agricultural agencies.
A model of the new 1953 Dodge car is now being shown by Whited & Son, local Dodge- Plymouth dealer. The Warrior team overpowered Albion Friday 32 to 12. Jerry Bosak had his best scoring time of the season, making three touchdowns, one a beautiful 51-yard jaunt through the entire visiting team. Pvt. Daniel Krzycki recently arrived in Korea and has been serving with the 40th Infantry Division after training in Japan. His wife, the former Miss Kathryn Prososki, is staying with her parents in Fullerton.
That there are many former Fullerton people now living in California is attested by the fact that 107 of them in the Los Angeles area met for the second annual Fullerton Party in Los Angeles on October 11. Sixteen men picked 88 acres of corn on Tuesday for Mr. and Mrs. Thomas W. Prososki at their farm southeast of Fullerton.

Fullerton city schools will be closed next week primarily to permit students to assist with corn picking due to a shortage of farm labor and to permit teachers to attend the state convention.
Staff Sergeant Theodore J. Ziemba has left Moore Field, advance flying school near Mission, Texas, for Burbank, Calif., where he will pursue a five-week course of study on the P-38 pursuit plane at the Lockheed Company. Tony Badura has closed his blacksmith shop and taken employment at the Cornhusker Ordnance plant in Grand Island.

Raymond Halverson sustained burns on his abdomen Thursday when he fell against a hot tractor. Honoring Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kula, a farewell party was held Monday at their home. Dancing and cards were the diversions for the evening and refreshments were served at the close
