10 Years Ago March 13, 2013 A customer appreciation dinner was enjoyed by 200 people at the Loup river Inn March 5 hosted by Dallas Choat of DC Seed and Chemical of St. Edward. The headline attraction for the guests was the appearance of Tom Osborne.

Update from former community member, Betty Mapes: In 2013, Norm and I moved south of Merriman, NE on our acreage on the Niobrara river. Walt lives in Morgonton NC, he works for Cummins Meritor and is the Operations Lead. His son Ben is in his last year at Appalachian State in Boone NC.

Belgrade Rewinds

20 Years Ago March 13, 2003 Quiz bowl first place winners at Belgrade Public School were Belgrade team of the Dynamic Dinos: Dillon Busch, Nicki Greger, Tom Malander; Second place medalists were the team of Cranky Crabs. Students in this team included Jake Greger, Sam Scott and Jami Scott.

Johnston Graduates from Basic Training

Kaine Johnston graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas on March 2, 2023. He is one of the first Space Force guardians to be chosen from this area. Kaine’s rank in the Space Force is Specialist 1. He is currently at Tech School for his specialty.

Inspect Evergreens for Insects and Diseases Now

There is not much to do in our landscapes during March, but we can inspect evergreens for pests and if found, and when justified, make plans for control later this spring. Check spruce, Juniper and Arborvitae for bagworms.

The Flower Barrel has been providing floral and gifts in Fullerton for over 30 years, a tradition of service that continues today under the ownership of Lee and Andrea Meysenburg of Fullerton. After high school, Lee and Andrea lived in David City for 13 years.

Governor Pillen Calls Upon PSC to Focus on Rail Safety
