‘Backyard Farmer’ to visit the Nebraska State Fair

LINCOLN — “Backyard Farmer” will record a live episode at the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island on Monday, Aug. 25.Nebraska Public Media welcomes the public to this free event located in the Raising Nebraska Building, starting with a questionand- answer panel at 4:15 p.m.

Wayne State announces new scholarship process

WAYNE — To help new students and their parents with financial clarity when choosing a college, Wayne State College is implementing “point-of-admission” scholarships, which will award a qualification-based scholarship to new first-year students when they are accepted to Wayne State.

Corn Board to meet

LINCOLN — The Nebraska Corn Board will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025, at the Bayer Water Utilization Center (76268 Hwy 47) in Gothenburg.The meeting is open to the public, providing the opportunity for public comment. The board will conduct regular board business.

Fullerton voters: ‘YES’ to sales tax

FULLERTON — The voters have spoken.Fullerton residents overwhelmingly supported continuing the Economic Development Program and the 0.5 percent sale tax to be used for infrastructure projects and economic development.Nance County Clerk Adrian Chlopek said that 283 ballots were received.

STATE FAIR TIME

The Nebraska State Fair will proudly kick off the America 250 Celebration by hosting the U.S. Army’s premier acoustic group, the Six-String Soldiers, on Veterans Day.The Six-String Soldiers formed in 2015 after their rendition of “Here Comes the Sun” by The Beatles went viral on Facebook.

Special election ballots rolling in

FULLERTON — Ballots have begun rolling in ahead of next week’s special election in Fullerton.Nance County Clerk Adrian Chlopek said that 207 ballots have been received so far. A total of 771 ballots were distributed to voters.

Sex offender investigation leads to 2 arrests

FULLERTON — Deputies made two arrests on Monday following an investigation into a report of an unregistered sex offender living less than 500 feet from a licensed daycare.Sheriff Ben Bakewell said that deputies arrested David Michael Albert Sr.

FROG classes going strong in Genoa

GENOA — FROG classes meet twice a week in Genoa.FROG — which stands for Fitness Reaching Older Generations — meets Monday and Thursday from 10-10:30 a.m. at the Pawnee Senior Center in Genoa. Classes began in February and consistently have between 5 and 12 people attend.
