Mary Vera Mitchell, 89, of Fullerton, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at her home.
To honor Mary’s wishes, her body was donated to science. She will later be cremated and she requested her ashes be scattered so she will always be blowing in the wind.
Mary was born on Feb. 27, 1934 in Prescott, Ariz. Her parents, Uso and Anita (Rubalcava) Mutoff, died when she was two and half years of age. Her maternal grandmother raised her in Kingman, Ariz. She married Don Mitchell in Las Vegas, Nev. After, they lived in Kingman and Phoenix, Ariz. In 1972, they moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., where Don worked for the federal government at Fort Carson. Mary was a stay-at-home mother, who volunteered as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for her daughters’ troops.
In 1980, Don and Mary moved to Fullerton, where she began managing a bar she and Don owned. Later, she worked at the Little Brown Jug for eight years. She was an Eagles Auxiliary member and a member of the Museum Board, where she served as Treasurer. She also volunteered with the Share organization for a number of years. She belonged to the Flower Belles and served as President for several years. She loved plants and flowers, was a flustered cook, but loved to eat.
She is survived by her six children, Donald B. (Jennifer) Mitchell Jr. of Fullerton, Marianne Mitchell of Dallas, Texas, Teresa (Todd) Stephens of Greeley, Colo., Diane (Steven) Campbell of Kenesaw, Susan (Ryan Harris) McKenzie of Fullerton, and Andrea K. Mitchell of Omaha. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Taylor and Trey (Lauren) Stephens, Zachary and Daniel (Marissa) McKenzie, Seth (Shawna) Campbell, and Dalton (Tylor Howard) Mitchell and Lindsay (Tyler) Hoffman; and her three great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Mitchell Sr.; her parents, Uso and Anita Mutoff; brother, Sam Mutoff; and sister, Sophie Brown.
Memorials are suggested to the family for designation at a later date.
