NE State Historical Society Foundation announces collaboration with NE museums association

LINCOLN — The Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation (NSHSF) is pleased to announce a new collaboration with the Nebraska Museums Association (NMA).  Through this collaboration, the 80 museums who applied for the NSHSF Statewide Grants Program will receive a FREE membership to the Nebraska Museum Association for 2024 or, if they are already a member, extend their membership for 1 year.

“We are dedicated to finding new and important ways to support local organizations – museums, historical societies, and libraries who are working diligently to preserve their shared histories,” said Leslie Fattig, Executive Director of NSHSF.  “A membership in the NMA is one way we can help them achieve their goal.”

An NMA membership has many benefits for these local museums including cooperative purchasing, workshops, technical assistance, and legislative advocacy.  The 80 organizations who applied for the Statewide Grants Program are mainly located in smaller communities across Nebraska and are working hard to preserve their collections, update their technology, and educate their community about the historical significance of their town.

The NSHSF Statewide Grants Program provides grants that benefit Nebraska historical and educational organizations with programming and learning opportunities in community history.  Examples of applying organizations include museums, historical societies, and libraries that use core educational, preservation, and interpretive programs.  In the three years that the program has been in existence, the Foundation has awarded over $90,000 in grant funding.  The 2024 goal is to grant $75,000 to deserving organizations.  Donations to this program can be made through the website.

“These are exciting times,” said Audrey Kauders, NMA Board Member.  “By working together, we can serve as resources for Nebraska museums and help them preserve the history of our state.”
