Melvin “Mel” Dean Kutschkau, age 90, passed away Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023 at Litzenberg Memorial Long-Term Care in Central City.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 22 at 11 a.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home. Pastor Keet Redden officiating. A Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Inurnment will take place at the Phillips Cemetery. Memorials suggested to the family for future designation. Condolences can be left at www.giallfaiths.com.
Melvin was born Jan. 6, 1933 in Phillips to Gustav and Cora (Mapes) Kutschkau. The family moved to Grand Island where he attended school and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1951. On May 23, 1954, Melvin was united in marriage to Bonnie Paro in Grand Island. Mel joined the Army and the couple moved to Alaska as he was stationed there. After his discharge, they moved back to Grand Island and then to Fullerton. He worked for Meadow Gold and later owned and operated Mel’s Home Delivery. Mel was a member of the Methodist church, sang in the choir and was active in the Fullerton Fire and Rescue. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by children, Carey Kutschkau of Fullerton, Gwen Kutschkau of Silver Creek and Ron (Cindy) Kutschkau of Clarks; five grandchildren, Kyle (Heidi) Kutschkau, Cody (Michelle)Kutschkau, Toby Kutschkau , Michael (Holly)Kutschkau, Anna (Levi) Loper; eight great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie; parents; son, Dennis Kutschkau; siblings, Leroy (Rhea) Kutschkau, Wilbur (Iona) Kutschkau, Don (Adeline) Kutschkau, Orvis “Danny” (Elaine) Kutschkau, Eloise (Richard) Sherry and Betty Valasek.
