FULLERTON — Generations of people in the United States grew up hearing “Clean your plate, there are starving children in Africa.” However, why has Africa not seen significant change despite billions of dollars of aid provided over the years?
Three crises in Africa remain– the spiritual crisis, the next-generation crisis, and the economic crisis. Pastors in Africa love God and have a call to serve, but have little to no training and income. Economically speaking, 4 out of 10 people in East Africa live below the poverty line ($2/day). Finally, because of such high mortality rates, many children aren’t named until they are a year old.
Possibilities Africa was started 20 years ago as a 501c3 nonprofit to make true, lasting change through a holistic approach. The organization gives people a “handup” rather than a handout by tending to the root of generational poverty that has existed for centuries. We believe that the WHOLE Gospel, impacting the WHOLE person, transforming the WHOLE community is the answer.
Because of this model, over 3,150 spiritual leaders have been trained, 20,300 microbusinesses have been started, and over 50,000 children are invested in each year.
Fullerton native Emily Frenzen began working as the Creative Director for Possibilities Africa in January 2024. Shortly after, Emily traveled with a team from the U.S. to Kenya & Malawi in February and March.
On Tuesday, June 18, you’re invited to hear Emily share how you can be part of this Godsized vision as she shares stories of the organization and her time overseas. The event will begin at 7 p.m. at the Cackling Henhouse (224 Broadway Street Fullerton). Refreshments will be provided for guests.
If you can’t attend on Tuesday, June 18 but are interested in hearing more, contact Emily at efrenzen@possibilitiesafrica. org or read more online at usa. possibilitiesafrica.org.
