Want to save money on school supplies this year? Well, you will need to travel, but not that far.
Iowa and Missouri have tax breaks this weekend (August 2nd through 4th). Iowa's annual sales tax holiday for clothing and footwear will take place Friday, August 2nd through Saturday, August 3rd. During the holiday sellers are not required to collect sales tax, including school and local option taxes, on sales of qualifying clothing or footwear having a selling price of less than $100. All relevant tax categories will be exempt during the holiday period.
In Missouri, back to school sales tax holiday will take place August 2-4. During this period qualifying sales of clothing and footwear, personal computer or computer peripheral devices, personal computer software, general school supplies are exempt from sales tax. All relevant tax categories will be exempt during the holiday period under the appropriate thresholds.
Driving a few hours might save you some tax on items you would be buying anyway.
Currently Nebraska does not have a sales tax holiday for school supplies.
