Demi Lusche honored with DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses

COLUMBUS — Demi Lusche, RN, recently received Columbus Community Hospital’s DAISY Award for the third quarter of 2024. Lusche is a registered nurse and transport registered nurse in the hospital’s emergency department.

The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates nurses’ extraordinary clinical skills and compassionate care. CCH is a DAISY Award Partner and recognizes one of its nurses with this special honor each quarter.

Nancy Blocker, RN, who works in the hospital’s post-anesthesia care unite (PACU), nominated Lusche for the award. In her nomination letter, Blocker praised Lusche for her quick diagnosis and treatment when Blocker’s family member came into the emergency room.

“Demi was on top of the treatment and took the best care of (Blocker’s family member) Tom,” Blocker said. “She was extremely kind and understanding. I felt at ease with all the treatments and orders which she was providing and educating us on.”

Blocker went on to commend Lusche for her extraordinary care.

“As an RN, I know the treatments for stroke and the risks and benefits,” Blocker said. “However, somehow it is different when you are the patient or family. I will forever remember the experience with this emergency department staff, their prayers for us, their quick response and the knowledge and kindness shown to Tom, my daughter and myself by Demi in this emergency situation.”

Lusche was honored with an award presentation on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

Patients, visitors, nurses, physicians and staff can nominate a deserving nurse by filling out the “Nurse Nomination Form” at columbushosp.org. Nominations received after the winner is chosen for that quarter will be eligible for the next DAISY Award.
