In 2008 the Fullerton police department gave a presentation inviting residents to hold local neighborhood watch gatherings. Following the invitation, Liz Zarek took the advice to heart and held her first Neighborhood Watch Bar-B-Q. For the past 17 years on the fourth Thursday in August, Liz has invited her neighbors and friends to come together on her lawn to eat and socialize. Only in 2015 was the bar-b-q not held after the unexpected passing of Liz’s husband, Paul. This past Thursday, August 28th, marked the 16th Neighborhood Watch Bar-B-Q hosted by Liz and her family. The gathering brought together 51 people in total. The Zarek family provided pulled pork, hot dogs and drinks. The sides and desserts which ranged from deviled eggs to a whole Casey’s pizza were brought potluck by the neighbors who attended. With perfect weather, good friends and great food, the Zarek Neighborhood Watch Bar-B-Q was enjoyed by all who had the pleasure to attend.
