FULLERTON — The City of Fullerton will have tree tissue samples tested to see why trees in the city park are dying.
During last week’s city council meeting, Kevin Dubas asked the council for an update on the trees in the park.
“Who or what is killing the trees in the park and what’s being done about it?” Dubas asked during public comment time at the council’s October meeting.
Fullerton Mayor K.C. Rieken told Dubas that the city will need to take tree tissue samples to be tested. He said that he had been waiting to see if the trees’ condition would improve after recent rain.
“I would think you would want to get on that before it kills every tree in the park,” Dubas said. “You’re about three quarters of the way now. You’re talking about tens of thousands of dollars. If someone killed that tree, you better get with it.”
In other business, the city council:
• approved Sargent Drilling testing well sites for $18,500.
• took no action on closing 6th Street for Halloween and removed it from future agendas. Discussion was tabled last month.
• approved two LB840 applications. One application was for $4,000 and the other was for $3,915.54. The applicants were not identified.
• discussed nuisance properties in the city. The council approved code enforcement restarting the process with offending properties.
