Genoa man arrested on warrant

GENOA — A Genoa man was taken into custody after the Central Nebraska Special Response team was called to a camper on the north side of Genoa.

Wade Brandenburger

Wade Brandenburger, 39, of Genoa, was arrested on a felony arrest warrant for domestic assault with bodily injuries (Class IIIA felony). He was out on bond in connection to an arrest in Platte County for distribution of large quantities of methamphetamine.

Nance County Sheriff Ben Bakewell said that officers learned at 8:36 a.m. that Brandenburger was possibly in a camper on his parent’s land about four blocks away from Twin River. The district went into a lockdown during the incident.

About an hour later multiple deputies and Nebraska State Patrol troopers, along with the armored vehicle, arrived on the scene. Bakewell said that officers tried negotiating with Brandenburger for his surrender, but he did not respond.

The windows of the camper were breached and gas was deployed. When officers entered the camper, Brandenburger was located hiding in a small compartment under the bed.

“Mr. Brandenburger refused to show officers his hands and refused all directives,” Bakewell said in a news release. “A K-9 was deployed on Mr. Brandenburger.”

Brandenburger was injured when the K-9 removed him from his hiding place, Bakewell said. An ambulance was called to take him to the hospital. He said that while officers were waiting for the ambulance, Brandenburger appeared to go unresponsive and stopped breathing.

“Officers immediately went into a lifesaving mission and administered Narcan to Wade Brandenburger and started chest compressions,” Bakewell said.

Brandenburger was taken to Genoa Community Hospital and later airlifted to Lincoln for additional medical treament.

Bakewell said that Brandenburger faces additional felony charges in Nance County.
