COLUMBUS — Columbus Community Hospital recently received recognition as a patient care leader in OB-GYN (obstetrics and gynecology) surgery and general surgery from Castle Connolly, earning a spot on its 2026 Top Hospitals list.
Hospitals that receive recognition as a Castle Connolly Top Hospital are evaluated for overall excellence and performance in specialties and procedures. Castle Connolly selected Columbus Community Hospital from more than 6,000 hospitals nationwide as an award recipient for:
- OB-GYN surgery with procedure-specific excellence in cesarean sections
- General surgery with procedure-specific excellence in hernia repair
Mark Howerter, MD, the hospital’s chief medical officer, said he is pleased but not surprised that CCH was named a top hospital in these two service areas. “The diligence with which we continue to strive toward high-quality and safe patient care lays the foundation for these types of recognitions,” he said. “It is gratifying to see the ongoing efforts of many health professionals recognized in this manner.”
Castle Connolly is a healthcare research and information company that helps patients find top-rated doctors, dentists and hospitals in the United States. Its Top Hospital recognitions are based on a rigorous, data-driven methodology that evaluates hospitals across six critical performance measures over a three-year period. This approach provides a clear, data-informed view of which providers are delivering high-quality care.
Tawny Sandifer, the hospital’s vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer, said this recognition reflects the exceptional dedication of Columbus Community Hospital’s nurses, physicians and healthcare teams who provide compassionate, evidence-based care to every patient, every day.
“Being named a Castle Connolly Top Hospital in both OB-GYN surgery and general surgery is a testament to our collective commitment to quality, safety and outstanding patient outcomes,” she said. “We are honored to serve our community and proud of the caregivers whose expertise and teamwork make this achievement possible.”
