Cheryl L. Hoffbauer

Cheryl L. Hoffbauer, 70, of Columbus, died Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at her home in Columbus.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 7 at 11 a.m. at Highland Park Church in Columbus with Pastor Mike Escen officiating.  Private family interment will be in Fullerton Cemetery at a later date.  The family will greet friends beginning at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the church. Please join the family at a lunch in the church fellowship hall after the service to continue to celebrate Cheryl's life.  The service will be broadcast live on Gass Haney Funeral Home Facebook page.

Cheryl was born on Sept. 28, 1954, in Fullerton, to Burch & Doris (Sonderup) Fenstemaker. Cheryl grew up and attended school in Fullerton with her two sisters, Connie and Christy, graduating from Fullerton High School and going on to earn a certificate in floral design.

Cheryl worked in the deli department at Food-4-Less for 12 years and then at Holiday Inn Express for 14 years as a breakfast attendant. Cheryl met Richard Hoffbauer in 2009 and the two were married Sept. 10, 2011, at Highland Park Church, and resided in Columbus since.

Cheryl is survived by her husband, Richard Hoffbauer of Columbus; sister, Connie Pettengill of Aurora; niece, Sarah (Nick) Stoll of Marysville, Kan.; nephews, Christopher and Daniel Mitchell of Bellwood, Preston (Ashton) Sunneberg of Peru and Paul Sunneberg of Liberty; as well as other family members and dear friends.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Burch and Doris Fenstemaker; sister, Christy Mitchell; and aunts, Elna Boardman and Ruth Bisel
