Larry L. Schumacher

Larry L. Schumacher, 79 of Kearney passed away Thursday, Dec. 26, 2024 at CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2025 at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #52, VFW Post # 759 in conjunction with the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Team. Inurnment will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon.

Lawrence Lewis Schumacher was born Oct. 30, 1945 in Tilden to Jerome and Blanche (McIntosh) Schumacher. He was raised in Genoa and attended Genoa High School. Following graduation, Larry proudly served in U.S. Navy from 1965 until his honorable discharge in 1969. Larry later earned his degree from Kearney State College. On Dec. 24, 1973, Larry was united in marriage to Rose Garcia in Golden, Colo. He was employed as a maintenance supervisor at West Company for 28 years. He later worked at Coleman’s and the City of Kearney.

Larry was a member of the Kearney American Legion Post #52. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and being outdoors.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rose Schumacher of Kearney; daughter, Christina Schumacher of Kearney; sons, Michael Schumacher of Kearney and Travis (Michelle) Schumacher of Lincoln; granddaughter, Olivia Rose Schumacher; sisters, Betty (Dave) Stanger of St. Paul and Dorthea Sempek of Monroe; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jerome and Donald; and sisters, Maralyn Rohloff and Dolores Parry.
