Lucille 'Tootsie' Koopman

Lucille "Tootsie" Koopman, 87, of Columbus, died Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at The Heritage at Meridian Gardens in Columbus.

Funeral Services are 10 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2026, at McKown Funeral Home with Pastor Patrick Sparling officiating. The family will receive friends from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial is in Roselawn Cemetery.

Lucille C. Koopman was born Oct. 23, 1938, at home in the Palmer area of rural Nance County to Walter J. and Mary M. (Dubas) Bosak. She was given the nickname "Tootsie" and still was known as such by family and former classmates. Tootsie attended rural Nance County one room schoolhouses and graduated from Genoa High School in 1955. She worked as a long-distance operator in Lincoln, New Jersey and Columbus. Tootsie also worked as an accountant for a tax firm and an account receivable supervisor for Valmont industries. Upon returning to Columbus, she went to work for Mid-America Research Chemical Corp. as office manager and retired in 2003 after 27 years. During those years, office procedures went from manual accounting with paper and pen and adding machines to calculators and then computer system technology. John R. Koopman and Lucy were married in 1976. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, evening, Guild, and the Eagles Club. During retirement, John and Lucy did various church and community volunteering. Lucy like to sketch and read and loved her pet pets.

Lucy has survived by step-children, Linda (Albin) Moore of Columbus, John David (Isabel) Koopman of San Francisco, Calif., and Joan (Bill) Kreifels of Bovey, Minn.; step-grandchildren, Jessica (Ross) Silverberg of West Linn, Ore., Jaimie (Jake) Medlin of Safety Harbor, Fla., Allison (Christopher) Weddle of Big Fork, Minn., William Kreifels of New York City and Jordi Koopman of San Francisco, Calif.; step-great-grandchildren, Tessa Jean Weddle, Maddison Weddle, Levi and Layton Weddle and Jaxson and Joseph Medlin; sister, Rose Weldon of Gretna; and many nieces and nephews.

She has preceded in death by her husband; parents; siblings, Cecelia (Albin) Stetz, Ann (Jack) Hamilton, Emily (Rock) Snyder, Emil (Evelyn) Bosak and Frank (Della) (Phyllis) Bosak; brother-in-law, Jim Weldon.
