The time is overdue for the public to take an active role in Merrick and Nance county clean water protection via a county policy of public on up reporting system.
Simple program where the Public, Sheriff’s office and County Board of Supervisors all work together. The Board sends out pubic notice that the county wants advance notification of any water pumped or drained into our counties and also if there is any contaminant concern. Public becomes a helping watchdog and reports anything affecting clean water to county Sheriff’s office. Sheriff’s office investigates and addresses concerns.
Board of Supervisors keeps a record of all reporting and acts if needed.
We have relied on government agencies above the county level for clean water protection. What has it got us? Multiple levels of government proofing and supporting CPNRD’s bulletin that says cancer rates are way above the national average in our counties.
We all know cancer is way too common in our area and most all know past contaminants have been pumped and drained through our counties.
The latest was 2023 Grand Island airport pumping that had major manufacturing concerns in it along with other concerns.
One public member was able to shut that multi-million dollar 72 well setup down and it disappeared in 10 days like it was never there. Why?
Contact your county Board of Supervisors or all of them and tell them to support the Clean Water Policy for the county. Know the Boards have had 3 years of all kinds of water information presented to them and info is in the counties permanent public records.
Nance County is waiting for Merrick County to act.
Encourage them to act.
