Beware of lies

If you want to see me get upset, lie to me. I have a low tolerance for liars. Perhaps the worst lies are the ones that I want to believe. I need to hear the truth. I won’t learn anything if I’m never challenged to see things a different way.

Secure the border

At the end of January, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested a terrorist in Minnesota. He crossed our southern border in early 2023, and he roamed freely across our country for almost a year before being detained.

Cookies and donuts can fix any bad mood

Moods can be a fickle thing. You can be walking along, having a great day, and then out of nowhere your mood can shift 180 degrees. I woke up in a bad mood one recent weekend. I couldn’t begin to tell you what put me in my bad mood (probably an argument I had with myself in my head).

It is an indisputable fact that America has an addiction to drugs! Thirty two percent of American adults have received a prescription for opioids in the past two years and 18 percent received a prescription for opioids in the past year.

If it saves one life

Statistically, slow drivers cause more accidents and speeders cause more deaths. Setting speed limits slower saves lives. Maybe the Federal Highway Administration should set the national maximum speed limit to thirty miles per hour. That would reduce the number of traffic fatalities.

Ricketts and Pillen on right side in electric vehicle debate

Full Disclosure: My wife and I drive a four-year-old hybrid sedan. It runs on the electric motor up to 15 miles -per- hour before the gasoline engine engages. It feels and sounds like it’s dead at stop signs. It averages 44 miles-per-gallon in highway driving.

In 1988, the American frigate USS Samuel B. Roberts struck an Iranian mine in international waters. The explosion severely damaged the boat and injured several Americans. Thankfully, no one was killed — but wisely, President Reagan didn’t wait for tragedy to occur before acting.

These Boots Are Made For Walking

Winter weather has finally arrived this year. Getting outside for some activity, even in winter, is great for your overall health. However snow, ice, and cold can turn a stroll in the park into an obstacle course.

NSAA has a State Wrestling PR problem

You plan for the worst and hope for the best. And maybe, if you are lucky, you can make it out unscathed. In recent weeks there have been grumblings in the high school wrestling world leading up to the state tournament.

Rethinking the rules that guide us

Every one of us can probably think of an example of someone who grew up in a home with plenty of discipline and instruction in self-restraint, and we have witnessed the virtuous character that results from that kind of upbringing.
