Wrestling & February holidays

On the front page, I wrote an article on state wrestling. I have been watching wrestling literally my entire life, or as long as I can remember. I went to state wrestling last year. Here is my opinion: As media, we cover classes C and D and girls.

I’m a big fan of a radio personality from Iowa on Blaze Media named Steve Deace. I’ve learned a lot from him about polling, politics, and putting faith to work in everyday life. He has a statement that I have struggled with. He says: “We are not a nation of laws, and we never have been.

Governor vows to cut property taxes by $2 billion, somehow

I was not shocked, just disappointed when Governor Jim Pillen announced that he was going to reduce Nebraska’s collective property taxes by $2 billion this year, somehow. Imagine that.

Say what you mean and mean what you say

My daughter, Penny, finds it funny that I am not the most limber person out there. Well, last week she would have been pretty amazed at how flexible I have become. I managed to find a way to put my foot squarely in my mouth.

Dishwasher woes

Our old dishwasher finally gave up. It basically stopped cleaning the dishes. It still ran, but you ended up washing dishes after it was supposed to wash dishes. We estimated it to be 20 years old so figured it was time for a new one.

While campaigning for this senate seat in 2022, the number one question on many people’s minds was “What is happening in today’s schoolhouses?

I think I was pretty young when I was introduced to Aesop’s Fables. One of the more famous ones is the story of the boy who cried wolf. In the story, a boy cries out that there is a wolf, but it was a lie. The town’s people came out to rescue him but find that there was no wolf.

I like the idea of the legislature running the prison system

Omaha Senator Justin Wayne, chair of the Judiciary Committee, has offered a bill that would put Nebraska’s Legislature in charge of the state’s prison system, which is currently under the purview of the executive branch.

Snow causes delays, confusion and cabin fever

It’s good to be out again. In my nearly 20 years in the newspaper business, I cannot remember a snow storm that completely shut things down like the one that hit central Nebraska last week. Sure, there would be snow days here and there — but that storm knocked me off my game.

Are you a CID person?

When I was in college, I learned a lot about leadership. I managed cleaning on campus before moving to Nebraska to get into IT. In the summer we took crews of students around to different parts of campus to clean what we couldn’t during the school year.
