Expectations are funny things. Sometimes they are really good, and sometimes they are really bad. I guess they’re like many things in life. We asked the kids to make supper together over the weekend. One of them said they shouldn’t do it together because they will fight.

Ice cream & 4-H time

The third Sunday of July is annually National Ice Cream Day. One of the churches in our other county has an ice cream social every year on this day. Do you think they know this? I don’t know. If you need an excuse, this Sunday is a good time to eat ice cream.

My parents taught their three sons to treat women with kindness and respect. Things like never hitting girls, opening doors for them and allowing them to go first. Dad called it “chivalry.” You’ll still catch me saying “ladies first” when we eat buffet style at home.

In the mid-1800s, Nebraska was still barely touched by settlers migrating West for a new life. Our state was home to the prairies and rivers we see today. Over the next century, pioneers of all ethnic and religious backgrounds made the journey to Nebraska and chose to settle in its natural beauty.
