Gov. Pillen appoints new fire marshal

LINCOLN — Last week, Governor Jim Pillen announced his appointment of Doug Hohbein as Nebraska state fire marshal. Hohbein has been serving in an interim role since the resignation of Scott Cordes in early March. He has been with the agency since 1985. Hohbein’s appointment is effective immediately.

Businesses compete, food pantries are winners

ALBION — Applied Connective Technologies and Valero Renewables Albion faced off again this year to collect food and other necessities for local food pantries. The heated annual competition concluded on Sept. 26, using the renewable plant’s scales to determine the winner.

NSP bomb squad, National Guard handle grenades found in Lincoln

LINCOLN  — The Nebraska State Patrol Bomb Squad and members of the Nebraska Air National Guard’s 155th EOD unit safely disposed of four grenades found in a home in Lincoln.Tuesday morning, a Lincoln resident found four old hand grenades among the belongings of an elderly family member.

The Clifton Strengths Institute at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln selected 31 students for the 10th cohort of the Clifton Builders Program.Housed in the College of Business, the program brings together students with high leadership and entrepreneurial potential to lead high-performing teams.
