Summer Olympics a chance for nation to come together

I love the Summer Olympics.Every four years, our nation has the opportunity to set aside its differences and come together. There is no Red, and there is no Blue. There is only Red, White and Blue. This year, the Olympics offer a break from roller coaster of national politics.

Newspaper owner responds to letter to the editor

I went to McDonalds over the weekend and tried to order a McRib. Needless to say, Ronald was less than accommodating.Changes have been made to the menu, and I ate some nuggets.Last week I received a letter to the editor from a reader who has moved away and now calls another state his home.

No exaggeration needed

Do you know someone who exaggerates all the time? I’m not talking about stretching things just a little.I’ve been in the car with my kids and they ask “how much longer” and my normal response is “just a few more minutes.

Direct messages are not lost in translation

I had a very interesting conversation the other day.I was trying to get the newspaper to the post office, and one of our readers stopped by the office. Don’t get me wrong, I love when you guys stop by and say hello. Feedback is always appreciated. This interaction was not feedback though.

I have the greatest job in the world

I have to say that I have the greatest job in the world. No, not as a newspaper owner (don’t get me wrong, I love what I do), but I am talking about being a dad.As a dad, I get to mold my four — soon to be five — kids to be productive members of society.

Playing ‘Name that Tune’ with a two-year-old

I’ve always been a bit of a child at heart. When I was the editor of a daily newspaper in Indiana I decorated my walls with superhero signs. My bookshelf was not filled with books, rather I had four shelves of bobble head statues.

It’s hard to be tolerant of all the intolerance

The world is changing . . . and not for the better. My kids recently found some of my old yearbooks from when I was in school. They enjoyed thumbing through the books and trying to find me.I’ll admit, it brings back good memories. Friends I have not seen in years, some I will never see again.

I’ll never get those hours back

Last weekend I spent more than two hours trying to beat a hard level I found on Super Mario Maker 2.Normally I would not have the patience to stay with a level for such a long period of time.
