NCJ Athletes of the Week for May 20, 2026

Each week during the school year, the Nance County Journal will select a male and female Athlete of the Week. This week we break from our norm and have selected eight area athletes. It's pretty hard to ignore someone when they punch their ticket to State.

Warriors punch tickets to State

OSCEOLA — The Warriors are sending six athletes to the Class D State Track Championships.Kane Wetovick punched his ticket for the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run. Kyle Horn punched his ticket in the 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles.

Hamik heading to State, team finishes fourth

BEEMER — Fullerton freshman Kip Hamik is heading for State.Hamik qualified for the NSAA Class D State Golf Championships after he finished fourth overall on Monday at the D-2 District at Indian Trails Golf Course.

Titans, Warriors entering final stretch

STROMSBURG — Fullerton and Twin River athletes made their final stop of the regular season on their road to the NSAA State Track Championships.Both teams were in action on Thursday at the Cross County Invite in Stromsburg.Fullerton’s boys finished fifth overall with 51 points.

Warriors take 4th at conference meet

BURWELL — The Warriors had a strong showing on Friday at the Goldenrod Conference meet in Burwell.The Fullerton boys team finished fourth at conference meet with 63 points. Nebraska Christian boys and girls swept the team titles.Kane Wetovick won the 400-meter dash (51.49) and 800-meter run (2:03.

Hamik continues strong season

HASTINGS — A Fullerton freshman earned another medal last week on the golf course.Kip Hamik fired a 79 on Thursday at the St. Cecilia Invite at Southern Hills Golf Course to finish sixth overall. He was just three strokes behind the leader, Keaton Corman of Sandy Creek.

FULLERTON — It was the home track, but not a home meet.Fullerton competed on Thursday in the Palmer Invite held at the Fullerton track.Kane Wetovick finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.89, just 0.28 seconds behind Nebraska Christian’s Titus Birnie.
