Area teams learn district assignments

Monday marked the official start of the spring sports season and teams are now able to begin holding practices. Last week the Nebraska School Activities Association announced the district assignments for track teams across the state. Fullerton will host the District D-5 meet on May 8.
Each week during the school year, the Nance County Journal will select a male and female Athlete of the Week. With the girls winter season complete, we selected two male athletes.

Bridger wins State Title

OMAHA — It was a storybook ending. Fullerton senior Brett Bridger was standing tall atop the podium in Omaha on Saturday, with gold around his neck. He is a State Champion.

Twin River season ends with loss to Cross County

STROMSBURG — The Titans had an early lead, but could not slow the Cougars in the second quarter. Cross County (20-5) used a 22-point second quarter to take control of Twin River on their way to a 68-60 semifinal win in the C2-4 Sub-District.

Area wrestlers shine first day at state

OMAHA — What a start to state wrestling! After one day of competition, three out of four area wrestlers are guaranteed a medal: for Twin River, Braxtin Fowler and Zach Held and for Fullerton, Brett Bridger.

Fullerton, Twin River learn sub-district paths

The path is set. The Titans and Warriors know their path to Lincoln. The NSAA released sub-district pairings on Tuesday. Fullerton will play in the D1-5 Sub-District at Cedar Rapids. Twin River will play in the C2-4 Sub-District at Cross County.

TICKETS PUNCHED

Nance County will be well-represented at State for wrestling. Fullerton and Twin River each sends two athletes to Omaha in Fullerton’s senior duo of Brett Bridger and Jerrod Land and Twin River’s freshmen duo of Braxtin Fowler and Zach Held.

Titans fall to Bulldogs in sub-district opener

STROMSBURG — It is hard to beat the same team twice in one season. It’s even harder to beat the same team twice in a week. Twin River (8-12) saw its season come to an end on Monday, falling to a team they defeated four days earlier.
