Neighbors and friends braved the heat last Thursday evening to gather on the lawn of Liz Zarek. For the 15th year she has hosted her Neighborhood Watch Bar-B-Q.

Fullerton pool closes for season

FULLERTON — This past Sunday was the final day for local kids to float the lazy river or jump from the high dive at Fullerton’s public swimming pool. The pool is now officially closed until next season.

Food pantry helps anyone who needs it

FULLERTON — For more than 25 years the Fullerton Food Pantry has been opening its doors to those in need in our community. Fullerton has one of two food pantries located in Nance County. They are open the first Wednesday of every month from 5-6:30 p.m.

Red Wagon Parade set for Sept. 8

FULLERTON — The Warriors are ready for Homecoming. The Red Wagon Parade and Pep Rally down Main Street will be at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8. Fullerton will take on Twin River at 7 p.m. on Friday for the Homecoming Game. The festivities will begin around 3 p.m.

Fullerton library has busy fall schedule planned

We are so excited to announce our fall schedule! The September programs are outlined below. Please check the entire list of fall programs on Facebook, on our website, or in one of the brochures that you can pick up in the library or from other businesses in Fullerton.

Blood drive a success

Fullerton Bloodmobile was held on August 22 at the Events Center. We had an awesome turnout on a scorching day, netting 69 units, just 5 short of our goal of 74. Isabel Norman was a first time donor.

Extreme weather and plant issues

While weather extremes are not unusual for Nebraska, we have had some exceptional extremes. Extreme drought, decent rainfall in July and August when we typically do not receive much precipitation, and a week of extreme heat. These conditions impact plants. Last week was unusually hot.

More shade added for Nebraska State Fair

GRAND ISLAND — You literally can have it made in the shade at the Nebraska State Fair — almost twice as much as before. Knowing the importance of finding a cool spot to have a bite, take a break or watch the fair go by, fair officials have invested about $25,000 in additional shade.

State Fair sets aside day to honor Nebraska veterans

GRAND ISLAND — Veterans will take center stage during the final day of the Nebraska State Fair, Monday, Sept. 4. “We moved Veteran’s Day to Labor Day after getting feedback from many vets last year,” said Karli Schulz, Entertainment and Events Director.
