Genoa is holding their firework display July 3rd at Dusk. A rain date is scheduled for July 4th. The fireworks will be shot off in the Northwest Corner of the Twin River Football Field. The firework display is sponsored by the City of Genoa, Genoa Volunteer Fire Department and Community Donations.

Celebrate July 4 with Veterans

The Directors of the Nance County Veterans Memorial will be hosting a “Show & Shine” Car display in memory of Tom Delaney. Tom was a founding member of the memorial and an avid collector of cars. The rules of the show are simple: • Everyone is welcome to participate. • Any vehicle may be entered.

The Lower Loup NRD has updated its Crop Water Use Report format. The updated layout consolidates data from three automated regional weather stations within the High Plains Regional Climate Center network into useful infographics updated every Wednesday through the growing season.

Columbus area celebrates We Care for Kids inaugural year

Efforts in Platte, Colfax, Boone and Nance counties helped the We Care for Kids/Por todos los niños campaign reach more than 100,000 people across Nebraska in the first year. Launched on June 15, 2022, the campaign has helped build support for quality child care and early learning in the state.

Summer Programs continue at Genoa Library

GENOA — This week’s summer reading programs met on Wednesday at noon and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. We read Harold and Hog Pretend for Real by Dan Santat. Then the children had the opportunity to create their very own unique puzzle using blank puzzles.

The Board of Education met on Monday, June 12, at 5:30 pm. Members present: Brian Aaberg, Brad Anderson, Scott Russell, and Beth Sonderup. Absent – David Ciancio and Jennifer Wood. Public notice of the meeting was published in the Nance County Journal on June 7, 2023.

Angus exhibitors led 72 entries at the 2023 Nebraska State Junior Angus Show, June 4 in Broken Bow, Neb. Dustin Frank, Chappell, Neb., evaluated the entries before naming champions.
