Norman was born Nov. 26, 1952, to Paul and Helen (Steckel) Mangelsen in Fullerton and grew up on a farm south of Albion. He graduated from Albion High School in 1972. Following graduation, he worked in road construction for several years. In April of 1977, he was united in marriage to Janice Reigle, and they were blessed with three children: Dana, Tara, and Jena. The family later moved to Greeley, where Norman worked for Rusty Dugan. In 1980, they returned to Albion, and Norman began working at Cargill, where he dedicated 20 years before retiring. After many years of custom haying, he went on to start his own haying business. Throughout his life, he was known for his willingness to help farmers and neighbors whenever needed. On April 2, 2002, he was united in marriage to Teri Wineinger, and they made their home between Albion and Cedar Rapids.
Norm had a love for his cats and horses. He loved going to rodeos and used to compete with his son, Dana, in team penning. He rarely missed going to the Boone County Fair. He was always the guy you turned to when you needed something fixed or created and could always be found in his shop tinkering. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Teri; children, Dana (fiancée, April Thorin) Mangelsen of Loretto, Tara (Randy) Leetch of Albion, and Jena (Nathan Hake) Mangelsen of Albion; 12 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; brother, Loren ‘Rabbit’ (Wendy) Mangelsen of Bassett; sister, Connie (Dale) Doremus of Polk; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald Mangelsen; and sister, Marie Mangelsen.
