Russell K. Howser

Russell K. Howser, 84, of St. Edward, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society, Albion.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2025, at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion, with Rev. Vernon Olson officiating and military rites conducted by Crosier American Legion Post #226 of St. Edward. Inurnment will be at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery in St. Edward. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at funeral home.

Russell Keith Howser, son of Keith and Leora (Fox) Howser was born Feb. 16, 1941, in Garrison. He attended District #32 before going to St. Edward High School. There, he graduated as part of the class of 1960. 

On March 28, 1965, Russell married Rosetta Jean Carlson at the Methodist Church in St. Edward. From this union, Russell was blessed with five children. In 1972, they moved to rural Belgrade where Russell farmed east of Belgrade. He welcomed kids, grandkids, and anyone interested to join in the fun of the farm. He loved sharing the simplicity and joy of the farming lifestyle.

Russell was a member of the Main Cemetery Board in Belgrade. He enjoyed playing softball and bowling in his free time. Some of his fondest memories were playing cards, fishing, camping, and spending time with loved ones. He attended many of his kids’ and grandkids’ activities and gladly cheered them on. 

Rosetta and Russell traveled to several places including the Black Hills and Mount Rushmore, San Diego, the Grand Canyon, Washington D.C., Disney World, Las Vegas, and the Redwood Forest. This past March, Russell and Rosetta celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. 

Russell is survived by his loving wife, Rosetta; five children, Randy (Ginger) Howser of Battle Creek, Kendall Howser of Fullerton, Susan (John) Nelson of Monroe, Steve (Becky) Howser of Lincoln, Debra (Jon) Zarek of Genoa; 11 grandchildren, Tresa (Dane) Prauner of Meadow Grove, Alysia Howser of Pierce, Jennifer (Austin) Rohrich of Pierce, Amanda (Brent) Voichahoske of Fullerton, Bryan Howser of St. Edward, Courtney (Chris Sempek) Nelson of Norfolk, Andrew Nelson of Monroe, Roland Howser and Talon Howser of Lincoln, Emmett Zarek and Oliver Zarek of Genoa; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers: Gary Howser of Rising City and Richard (Barb) Howser of Fullerton; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Roberta Warner and Bernita Warner; and brother: Nolan Howser.
