Garage sales and Olympics

The kids and I are going to have a garage sale. We started some cleaning and piling into boxes. We just can’t decide where to have it. We could have it at our house, which we have before. We clean out the garage, park those cars on the driveway and drag tables and boxes of stuff out.

What is ‘Woke?’

Last week someone asked me what it means to be “woke.”I may not have given the best definition, but I said a person says they are “woke” when they “wake up to the reality that everything in life is about power.”It’s a sad way to look at life, but it’s popular in some circles.

New beginnings

Happy End of May! We made it through Memorial Day and have just a few days left. I made it through my birthday. I had a great day off shopping with my family and eating a nice lunch in Grand Island. Each member of my family needed a pair of shoes, and most of us found one.

We don’t always have to agree

This may come as a shock, but I love hearing from people who disagree with me. Whether it is politics, religion, or which sports team is going to have a better season, it is important to be exposed to views different than yours.

Thoughts on Memorial Day

Our country’s greatest generation— the fighting men and home front heroes who won World War II—are leaving us rapidly. Once a fighting force of 16.4 million, less than one half of one percent of the veterans of that war still survive.

Observing Memorial Day

Memorial Day was born out of our nation’s most fractured and pivotal moment: the Civil War.Battered and worn after four years of internal strife, America nonetheless emerged intact in 1865, the dream of the Union preserved.

Talking Husker projects

One of the great, unsolved mysteries in the state has been why the beloved Trev Alberts left his alma mater to become athletic director at Texas A&M.
