A mutiny is brewing in the Holtz house

It took longer than I thought it would, but I have a mutiny on my hands.Easter is Sunday and this will be the second year in a row where my children will not be visiting Grandma’s house to celebrate the weekend. I really should have seen this coming.Let me back up a little.

Spring in Nebraska

Nothing like having all the seasons in one week, right? You know you live in the Midwest when… Monday and Tuesday we had winter, Wednesday more like fall and Thursday spring. How else do you know you’re in the Midwest? Eating chili with cinnamon rolls? Having hamburger/beef on your pizza?

Don’t exaggerate truth

“If I’ve told you once, I’ve told you a million times not to exaggerate!” That’s a funny saying I learned from friends in college. So much is exaggerated these days.
Representing You

Representing You

Imagine if at the height of the last Cold War, the Soviet Union had control over the largest television network in the United States. Imagine if its surveillance network tracked the opinions, interests, and movements of millions of Americans.

Let’s talk about that big day coming up this weekend, Easter. Some of you, like me, consider it a holy day. To others, it’s just a holiday. It’s also a family day, a time to gather around the table and talk about the future, maybe let the young one’s hunt Easter eggs. Eat some ham.

Keep your focus where it belongs

My name is Rick and I get distracted easily. It does not matter if the distraction comes from a phone call, a text message, a carrier pigeon or a smoke signal . . .Sorry a shaggy dog just walked past my office window.. . . Distractions come in all forms.

Let’s talk about religion

People say that you shouldn’t talk about politics and religion because it is too divisive, but I don’t shy away from these topics. I don’t bring them up to fight with people. I think we can learn a lot talking about what we believe and listening to others.Today I want to talk about religion itself.

Taking care of the poor

One time when I was flying as a co-pilot on a four-day trip with Delta Air Lines, the captain and I got into a conversation at cruise altitude about tithing and helping the poor. He and his family were church-going folks and he was a great fellow.

It’s time to get a new cat

We have been looking for a cat, well, two of us have. We might even consider two cats, but that’s where I draw the line. The male members of my household draw the line at one cat, and would draw it at zero if they could.Apparently March 23rd is National Puppy Day and Cuddly Kitten Day.
