Watch soccer, baseball live on Nebraska Public Media

NCJ Staff ReportLINCOLN — Nebraska Public Media will provide live television coverage as as boys and girls teams compete for state soccer championships at Morrison Stadium on the campus of Creighton University and boys’ baseball teams compete for state championships at Werner Park in Omaha.
Each week during the school year, the Nance County Journal will select a male and female Athlete of the Week.

Warriors take 4th at conference meet

BURWELL — The Warriors had a strong showing on Friday at the Goldenrod Conference meet in Burwell.The Fullerton boys team finished fourth at conference meet with 63 points. Nebraska Christian boys and girls swept the team titles.Kane Wetovick won the 400-meter dash (51.49) and 800-meter run (2:03.

Titans compete at Crossroads meet

OSCEOLA — The track season is winding down and the Titans found out where they stack against the best of the Crossroads Conference on Saturday in Osceola.The Twin River boys team finished eighth overall with 25 points. East Butler took home the team title.

Hamik continues strong season

HASTINGS — A Fullerton freshman earned another medal last week on the golf course.Kip Hamik fired a 79 on Thursday at the St. Cecilia Invite at Southern Hills Golf Course to finish sixth overall. He was just three strokes behind the leader, Keaton Corman of Sandy Creek.

Titans fall to ranked teams

GENOA — Last week Twin River ran into a pair of Class C teams who will be playing host to district games this week.On Thursday the Titans traveled to No. 2 Central City/Centura where they managed just three hits and lost an 11-1 five-inning final to the Bison.

HUMPHREY — Twin River had a pair of golfers compete on Thursday at the Defenders Invite at Steepleview Golf Course in Humphrey.Corbin Rodriguez finished sixth overall with an 85.On Monday, the team competed in a triangular at David City Gold Course against David City and Shelby-Rising City.

FULLERTON — It was the home track, but not a home meet.Fullerton competed on Thursday in the Palmer Invite held at the Fullerton track.Kane Wetovick finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.89, just 0.28 seconds behind Nebraska Christian’s Titus Birnie.

Titans take on Quail Run, David City courses

COLUMBUS — The large cottonwood trees that line the fairways on the south side of the levee at Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus make the back-nine a difficult challenge.The sound off golf balls hitting off the large trees is a pretty common sound during high school tournaments.
